Leaving Branson!

Newsletter Date:
January 5, 2025

Officially the 1st KCAC Bi-Weekly Newsletter!–

Greetings from the 2nd-to-last night in our Branson, MO home!

Kyle is next to me on our mattress on the floor of the new bedroom we built 2 weeks ago (lolllll) working on the vlog for Day 5 of our Iceland trip: the poor man is having to sift through a very large amount of mediocre GoPro footage we filmed in what is essentially “fish-eye” mode (unintentionally, of course).

Basically, everything looks like it was taken through a funhouse mirror. We really had no idea how to use our gear at the time.

Not to mention he's working with footage that's about 18 months old--so it takes him about 3x longer to edit these Iceland vlogs than I suspect future vlogs will, because he has to spend hours on the front end of every new video rewatching and sorting through all the footage before he can even start the editing process.

At any rate, I admire greatly the stories he's able to weave and create with less than-ideal raw materials. I'll be eager for all of you to see his creations in the coming weeks as these Iceland vlogs are posted on Saturday mornings! Speaking of YouTube...

This Week on YouTube:

video preview

We launched our YouTube on Christmas Day and so far have posted 3 videos!

We’re up to 119 Subscribers—which to the typical YouTuber is nothing, but we still get so hype about each individual subscriber—I hope we never lose sight of that, to be honest. I think it’s really easy to get caught up in the numbers game in this world of social media—but each “subscriber” is someone who INTENTIONALLY decided they wanted to watch us. That’s CRAZY. 119 of you want to watch us goobers figure out how to travel around the world. I hope that’s always as humbling and exciting as it is today.

If you haven't watched one of these videos yet, click above, and make sure to hit that subscribe button while you're there!

Last Week's Blog Post:

No Turning Back Now

"I’m fighting off just a hint of a cold that’s been threatening over the last week. A mild headache which was no doubt exacerbated by the many many tears shed last night in the arms of friends who have changed our lives forever..."

It's been a week since I said goodbye to the job and community I've called home over the last 4 years, and man did it hit me like a ton of bricks.

One of my favorite things about this new life chapter is that writing, something that has always been a lifeline and a creative outlet, is now a part of my JOB.

Last week was a huge chunk of this massive life transition.

Writing about it was a huge part of processing that shift.

Some Bonus Funsies:

Patreon Pillow Talk:

If you want some BTS footage in real-time, Patreon is the place to be! We'll be posting videos on a regular basis to talk about a lot of the less-pretty aspects of travel vlogging as well as regular budget breakdowns.

What's been in our headphones this week?

This has been a week of "lasts" and my last class as a yoga teacher at Kom was on Friday. This was the "goodbye" playlist I've been using for the last couple days <3 Leaving it here for others to enjoy if they'd like :)

...the next few days are pretty significant. It's been pretty overwhelming this last week if I'm honest and we're both ready to just launch this thing.

Initially we talked about leaving in the middle of last week, but with everything that needed to get done, I'm very grateful we opted not to. That was too ambitious. So the next few days stand thus:

We're currently under a winter storm warning, so depending on weather...

→ Pick up the rental car at SGF tomorrow morning (Mon. 1/6) at 11am

→ Go to the DMV to meet the people we're selling my car to. Sell Dory :(

→ Come home, laundry, repack, load the rental and tie up loose ends

→ Hit the road by 4am Tuesday morning and drive straight to Kyle's parents' house in Gladstone, VA. Likely 16-17 hours with stops.

The worst part of all this in the next few days is leaving our sweet Luna...

But that's a feelings tornado for later. I only have the emotional capacity for so much at the moment..

Lastly, for y'all's heads, I'll be posting a breakdown of Kyle's and my "job requirements" soon; but in short, you're probably going to be hearing from me (Cat) more often than Kyle.

Kyle is in charge of filming and editing our long-form YouTube videos. A job that is currently taking about 30 hours per video. And that's before adding regular film-days to our schedule!

As such, I (Cat) am doing most everything else. The result is that you're likely to hear from me more often in short-form social media or written materials. That doesn't mean I'm more involved--it just means my multiple jobs take less time, and they're generally more front-facing.

Thanks for being here, friends. And Happy New Year to you all! :)
